Glacial till

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The lower part of the formation is disconformable with the underlying Bolong Fm, unless an intervening Keliei Fm is present.

Upper contact

The top is disconformably overlain by the Kurkak Fm

Regional extent

Tieklik region (SW Tarim Basin). The Yutang Formation is distributed from Xuxugou, southwest of Yecheng County to Qiakmaklig valley and Kelixi valley on the west side of the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, Maklikgou, south of Klixigou in Yecheng County and south of Pishan County, Xinjiang.

Fossils

A large amount of microplants have been found in this formation (26 genera, 33 species), such as: Baltisphaeridium sp., Micrhystridium sp., Dictyosphaera sp., Pseudodiacrodium sp., Fuchunshania cf. rarojugata, Tasmanites sp., Quadratimorpha sp Monotrematosphaeridium asperum,.

Age

Late Nanhuan or early Sinian (late Cryogenian or early Ediacaran). Glacial till at top seems to suggest late Cryogenian (Marinoan glacial span used here for graphics); although might be Gaskiers?
