Yutang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Tieklik region (SW Tarim Basin). The Yutang Fmwas named by Ma Shipeng et al. (1989). The type section is located on the west side of the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, Qiakmakelik valley and Kelixi valley in Yecheng County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region). Upper formation of the Qiakmakelik Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
The Yutang Fm consists of a series of interbedded dark-colored (gray-green, gray purple and purple) and gray white silty mudstone, shale (mudstone) and argillaceous siltstone and sandstone, with pebbly sandstone and one layer of marine and littoral sediments interbedded with glaciomarine sediments in upper part.
Thickness: The Yutang Formation is 741 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The lower part of the formation is disconformable with the underlying Bolong Fm, unless an intervening Keliei Fm is present.
Upper contact
The top is disconformably overlain by the Kurkak Fm
Regional extent
Tieklik region (SW Tarim Basin). The Yutang Formation is distributed from Xuxugou, southwest of Yecheng County to Qiakmaklig valley and Kelixi valley on the west side of the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, Maklikgou, south of Klixigou in Yecheng County and south of Pishan County, Xinjiang.

Fossils
A large amount of microplants have been found in this formation (26 genera, 33 species), such as: Baltisphaeridium sp., Micrhystridium sp., Dictyosphaera sp., Pseudodiacrodium sp., Fuchunshania cf. rarojugata, Tasmanites sp., Quadratimorpha sp Monotrematosphaeridium asperum,.
